چکیده
Bleeding from anorectal varices can be massive and life-threatening. Punctual separation between hemorrhoids and anorectal varices is important. Numerous treatment options are available for management of bleeding anorectal varices, but none of them has demonstrated definitive efficacy. We report a case of successful transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt in controlling massive recurrent rectal variceal bleeding in an elderly male patient.

Potential Pitfalls in Transjugular Portosystemic Shunt Placement for Bleeding Rectal Varices
In patients with portal hypertension, bleeding from rectal varices is rare. However, it can be life-threatening. We report a case of massive bleeding from large rectal varices in a 59-year-old man with alcoholic cirrhosis. Emergent transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement was performed following failed local endoscopic therapy. Despite normalization of the portosystemic pr...

A patient with severe recurrent rectal bleeding from anorectal varices due to portal hypertension because of hepatitis C virus related liver cirrhosis is presented. As illustrated by the report, it is essential to differentiate bleeding anorectal varices from bleeding haemorrhoids because treatment is different. In our patient, implantation of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TI...
متن کاملA Case of Successful Treatment of Stomal Variceal Bleeding with Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt and Coil Embolization
Variceal bleeding from enterostomy site is an unusual complication of portal hypertension. The bleeding, however, is often recurrent and may be fatal. The hemorrhage can be managed with local measures in most patients, but when these fail, surgical interventions or portosystemic shunt may be required. Herein, we report a case in which recurrent bleeding from stomal varices, developed after a co...

BACKGROUND Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in patients with portal hypertension may be considered as a rescue therapy in case of recurrent variceal bleeding or failure of endoscopic management. CASE REPORTS We present a case of a patient with massive gastroesophageal variceal bleeding refractory to numerous endoscopic treatments in which TIPS was considered in an attempt ...
متن کاملRecanalization of an Occluded Intrahepatic Portosystemic Covered Stent via the Percutaneous Transhepatic Approach
A 41-year-old woman with liver cirrhosis had recurrent portal hypertension and bleeding from esophageal varices due to complete occlusion of a previously inserted transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt stent. Because recanalization of the stent by the transjugular approach was unsuccessful, ultrasound-guided entry to the splenic vein and portal vein was used. After catheter-directed intr...
